Nico McGiffin is a faggot, transsexual dyke, and multidisciplinary artist. They are currently based in “Vancouver, BC” on the unceded traditional territories of the xwməθkwəy̓ əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱ wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil- Waututh) Nations. McGiffin holds a BFA (2024) in Sculpture + Expanded Practices from Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and has exhibited across Vancouver, BC in galleries such as Massy Arts, Trapp Projects, The James Black Gallery, and Well Well Projects in Portland, OR.

Through the combination of wood, silicone, handmade collectibles, and other pre-owned objects, I offer up dissemblance as the toolbox for signalling the desire to function in another way. Through the creation of ambiguously representational objects, these sculptures confront the expectation of legibility we project onto the bodies around us. Drawing from archival research and object history, my work intertwines the actual and immaterial ideas we hold about bodies while simultaneously addressing the influence of the patriarchy on queer subcultures.
